Charges Raised for Man Accused of Snapping Baby's Spinal Cord

TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Dajuan Barnes is being charged first degree murder for the baby who died after his spinal court was snapped.

Jeffrey Phillips III nicknamed "Baby J" died on May 6. Medical examiners said the 10-month-old was dealt "...an extremely hard blow..." and his spinal cord was snapped.

On Thursday, Barnes charges jumped from second degree homicide to first degree murder. Authorities also added aggravated child abuse by great bodily harm or by malicious punishment.

Dajuan Barnes had previously plead not guilt to the second degree murder charges.
