BARBERVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a pregnant woman who, officials say, was driving a stolen truck when she was wounded and her passenger was killed in a shootout with central Florida deputies.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office reports that 19-year-old Shannon Murphy was released from a Daytona Beach hospital Friday and then arrested on a Jackson County warrant for grand theft of a motor vehicle. Authorities say the pickup Murphy was driving was reported stolen from an auto dealership in the Panhandle county.
When deputies tried to pull the vehicle over Tuesday, authorities say Murphy's passenger, 26-year-old Timothy Wagner, fired shots at the deputies. Officials say the deputies returned fire, killing Wagner. Murphy's shoulder was hit in the crossfire.
Murphy is from Marion, Virginia, as was Wagner.
State authorities are investigating.
