TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Black History Month is coming to an end, but Capital City residents are still celebrating.

Thursday night Loved By Jesus family Church honored Tallahassee's black history firsts in government.

Honorees include Congressman Al Lawson, Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil, former City Manager Anita Favors Thompson and Clerk of Court Gwen Marshall.

Reverend L.B. Johnson says recognizing black history makers of today is important.

"Let's give them their roses while they're still living," he said. "Let's celebrate them right now."
