(WWSB) - There might be a parasite lurking in your pool that will make you sick, which is what you don't want to hear as summer nears.

A new and not so pleasant warning from the CDC is about a parasite that could be in our pools and you could be the cause of it.

The parasite is called cryptosporidium.

It is spread by people who have diarrhea or are recovering from it and they go into the pool too soon.

The parasite can spread when people swallow the contaminated pool water.

Symptoms include stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting and dehydration that could last up to three weeks.

Crypto is not easily killed and can survive in chlorine water up to 10 days.
