CDC: Diabetes rates double among Florida adults

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - According to a recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the presence of diagnosed diabetes among Florida adults have more that doubled over the past 20 years.

It is estimated over 2.4 million people have diabetes and over 5.8 million have prediabetes in the Sunshine State. The CDC projects one out of three adults could have diabetes by 2050.

The Florida Department of Health says diabetes can be managed and prevented by paying attention to what you eat.

The Leon County Florida Department of Health also stated exercising and visiting the many local resources can also help prevent diabetes.
