TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- The Consolidated Dispatch Agency (CDA) wants to add more staffers to handle emergency calls in Leon County.

Director Timothy Lee says the agency right now is below maximum staffing. Lee answered questions from the CDA board Monday morning, including issues with recruiting. The CDA can have a staff of up to 100 employees. The agency has been partnering with FSU, FAMU and TCC to recruit potential applicants. Lee says the goal is to have a full staff as well as an applicant pool of qualified people.

"That takes a lot of duration and time, because it's a strategic thought process and weeding out process to make sure that we have the best possible candidate standing behind the radio and the phones to provide that service to the community," Lee said.

The national turnover rate for dispatch centers is 22 percent, according to Lee. He says the key to promote a positive outlook and aggressively look for the right people for the job.

At the time he was being interviewed by WTXL, Lee could not recall the exact number of staffers at the agency.

Thursday's edition of "The Insiders" takes a closer look at the CDA, its issues and the director leading the agency.
