SARASOTA, Fla. - Cat Depot’s Emergency Response Team rescued 26 cats from DeSoto County on Thursday.
The cats were tested and examined on site and have been transported to Cat Depot in Sarasota. Many have been exposed to viral diseases and are being held in quarantine under medical care for at least 30 days.
Most of the cats are reported to have parasites, fleas, and upper respiratory troubles in addition to several cases of dental disease. They will be re-tested and hopefully put up for adoption soon.
"We are grateful for everyone’s full cooperation to help the cats,” said Shelly Thayer. “By working together we are able to change the destiny of these deserving animals."
Cat Depot supports more than 130 cats and kittens on any given day. Last night, CDERT worked late into the night to process 43 cats in one day.
