TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Cascades Park has earned a top state award.
The Florida chapter of the American Planning Association has named it one of five "Great Places in Florida."
The 24-acre park was picked for its use of public land and range of amenities.
City commissioner Gil Ziffer says Cascades Park has quickly become the pride of Tallahassee.
"What's not to like? You can go there just about any time of day or night," he said. "It's well lit. It's got great walking trails. It's got an amphitheater. It's got a place for kids. It's got accessibility for those that have difficulty. It's a wonderful place, so we're really proud of it, and this recognition just elevates it onto a list that we deserve to be on."
The park is the result of a Blueprint 2000 project -- funded through Leon County's penny sales tax.
