Car split in half after crash on I-10, two seriously injured

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Two women have been hospitalized in Tallahassee after troopers say they drove through moving water, which caused their car to crash into a large tree and split in half.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash happened on I-10 in Jefferson County around 11:05 a.m. Troopers note it was raining heavily at the time, causing standing water on the roads.

They say Courtney Singer, 21, of Hammond, Louisiana was driving west on I-10 near mile marker 224 when she drove her 2002 Honda Accord through an area of moving water.

The water caused Singer to lose control and the car slid down the north shoulder into the treeline. Troopers say the left side of her car hit a large tree, causing the car to split in half.

Both Singer and her passenger, 23-year-old Alexandra Lee of Clifton, New Jersey, were hospitalized in serious condition at the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

Charges are pending investigation.
