CAMILLA, Ga. (WTXL) - City leaders in Camilla say GPS technology is the solution to complaints about difficulty finding their loved ones at an area cemetery.
The city has rolled out a GPS database to allow families to have the GPS coordinates to the exact plot in Oakview Cemetery.
Once a plot is purchased, the regional commission comes out and records the burial location into a GPS database.
Families can then have access to those coordinates from anywhere in the world.
"Well what happens is a customer comes in, in need of a plot sometimes immediate and sometimes for the future, and so we work with them to go out and find the best location based on their needs and mark that location," says Steve Sykes, the Camilla interim city manager.
City officials say they will also make other improvements to the cemetery as well.
They plan to put up new signage with named sections for easy accessibility.
