(RNN) - A trailer for the upcoming Call of Duty: WWII was revealed Wednesday during an event run by the game's publisher, Activision.
It will take players back to World War II, a stark contrast to the Call of Duty series' most recent entries, which have all been futuristic.
Some have said the game's topic brings the series back to its roots. The original Call of Duty, which also focused on World War II, was published in 2003 to positive critical review.
Josh Duhamel (Transformers, New Year's Eve) will play one of the game's main characters, a squad captain in the Army's 1st Infantry Division. The player will take on the role of a subordinate to Duhamel's character.
Also revealed was the inclusion of a new "Zombies" mode, where the player will fight to survive in cooperative play against an endless wave of the walking dead. This has been one of the most popular features of past Call of Duty games.
During the presentation, it was implied the zombies that players will fight against would be the machinations of Hitler's scientists. These scientists were later reviled for their human experimentation during the war.
Call of Duty: WWII is set to arrive on store shelves Nov. 3.
