Cairo renames Boys and Girls Club after hometown hero

CAIRO, Ga. – The city of Cairo honored its hometown hero Jackie Robinson on Mar. 16. They renamed the Boys and Girls Club after the baseball legend.

Cairo is the birthplace of the baseball hall-of-famer. More than 600 people gathered in the Grady Cultural Center for the Jackie Robinson Boys and Girls Club tribute dinner on Mar. 15.

On Mar. 16, the city and Grady County hosted a ground breaking ceremony for the construction of new youth baseball fields. Organizers hope to create new opportunities for youth in the community through baseball and softball programs.
