GRADY COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Grady County residents came out on Friday to save lives by donating blood.

Each blood donor gives about 500 milliliters of blood which is about 10 percent of what you have in your body.

Only about 39 percent of people can donate blood at any given time but only ten percent do.

And platelets are always needed because they only last for five days.

Right now O-positive, A-negative and B-negative blood types are needed the most.

"You got to give blood if your healthy and have the opportunity last time I did was when the storm came through and I know there still a lot of people in need,"said blood donor, Julian Brown.

Blood from this drive goes to a processing lab in St. Petersburg to be separated, tested and stored.
