TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- Frustration continues among businesses on Gaines Street in Tallahassee. The road closed for phase three of construction in the area on May 5.
Businesses in the area say in just a few days, they've already seen a decrease in customers.
"We've had several phone calls from our clients just asking if we're open, and how do they get to us, and where do they park," said Chelse Collins, an employee at Violet Nail.
She says they've placed signs throughout the area to direct people where to park, but those signs keep disappearing. Collins also says at one point their electricity and water were cut off without any notice. She says she's worried about how successful business will be throughout the next three months.
"Gaines Street usually does get a lot of traffic, so without that accessibility, it's definitely hard for us and for clients to see our business and to know that we're open and just to say oh okay, there's a nail salon there, it's convenient, let me stop in," said Collins.
Officials with the City of Tallahassee say the construction will help to build a more pedestrian-friendly downtown area. They expect the roads to reopen on August 22.
