TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee business owner was arrested for failing to provide the state-mandated workers' compensation benefits to his  employees.

Michele Andrea Bertoldi, 48, was released from the Leon County Detention Center on Sunday on a $5,000 bond.

He is the owner of Florida Medical Licensing Service, Inc. on East Lafayette Street

On Jan. 8, 2014, and on Aug. 29, 2017, Bertoldi knowingly placed "his employee's health, safety, and welfare in danger and knowingly committed insurance fraud by failing to secure workers' compensation insurance," a Florida Department of Financial Services investigator wrote in a court document.

Bertoldi was found to knowingly have committed insurance fraud because he committed the same violation within the 5-year period designated by Florida statues.

The business owner admitted he knew that his workers'compensation policy for his employees had lapsed, the investigator wrote of his Aug. 29, 2017, interview with Bertoldi.
