JEFFERSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Budget cuts are forcing the Jefferson County School District to lay off eight employees.

Prior to the lay-offs, the county's schools were in a financial emergency and are currently under state supervision.

Superintendent Marianne Arbulu said that the positions included two assistant principals, two bookkeepers, two people in the superintendent’s office, and two administrative support positions.

Arbulu said that the school district's spending has to be at least 3 percent below the $7.5 million of revenue in it's general fund.

She said that the positions will be dissolved by the end of December.
