TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Florida Department of Health wants to remind you how important it is to get your yearly exam.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most breast cancers are found in women 50 years of age and older.

Lynn Vinson, with the Florida Department of Health says there are three preventive measures, such as getting screened early, becoming physically active and quitting smoking.

Each year the American Cancer Society hosts Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks all over the country to raise awareness and research funds for the disease.

The Making Strides of Leon walk will be held on October 21 at Cascades Park.

Registration starts at 1 p.m., and the walk begins at 3 p.m.
