TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee Community continues to remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. beginning Friday with a breakfast in his honor.
WTXL ABC 27's Jada Williams was live Friday morning at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, where that breakfast will honor many in our community.
In about an hour, people will come out to the civic center to reflect on King and honor the men and women today who are living King's dream.
The Tallahassee NAACP is hosting the 34th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Breakfast.
This breakfast serves as a way to remind the community of the ideals of Dr. King.
Co-Sponsor Leon County Schools is also taking the time to honor 100 students that they say are living out principals and teachings of Dr. King.
Williams spoke to an eigth grader at Raa Middle School who says the honor is leaving him speechless.
"I'm a boy, so I didn't want to cry in front of anybody, but tears were welling up inside of me," said Mikael Marick. "I do a lot of things to study on Martin Luther King. I read books, I read reports. So I was scared, I was about to cry, I was very excited. I was like 'dang, everybody is gonna be proud of me when they find out."
The speaker for this year's breakfast is Florida State University President John Thrasher.
