BRADENTON -- A homeless man was robbed at knifepoint for money he had collected to buy dinners for others, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

The robber is also homeless, according to the report.

Lamar D. Fields, 35, punched the victim so hard he lost consciousness. Sheriff deputies charged Fields with punching and robbing the other homeless man.

The incident took place in the 1300 block of 27th Avenue West, where both men live in a homeless camp on the block.

The victim was taking up a collection from camp residents to buy food for their dinners, according to the report. Once he began walking to the store, he was attacked by Fields who was armed with a knife.

Deputies said they are often called to the camp for disturbances.
