PELHAM, GA (WALB) - The Boys & Girls Club for Mitchell and Thomas counties are encouraging kids to be thinkers and not drinkers.

The campaign is part of a $100,000 new behavioral grant the club recently received.

The grant will allow the agency to start an awareness initiative about drugs and alcohol for those ages 9 through 20.

The alcohol substance prevention project will help the organization go to schools in Camilla and Thomas counties.

Organizers said their goal is to reach 100 students in each of the counties at an early age.

"We want them to be aware. A lot of kids don't know what would happen to them, how their lungs would be affected, how their kidney's would be effected. And a lot of kids don't know that their inside. What's affecting them when their putting things in their system, how it is affecting them," said Felisha Draggs, program coordinator at the Boys & Girls Club of Mitchell County.

The Boys & Girls Club will start the initiative next month.
