AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Bond was granted to a convicted sex offender accused of raping an unconscious woman in east Georgia.
The Augusta Chronicle (http://bit.ly/28Vbj7u ) reports a judge granted a $50,000 bond Friday for 39-year-old Fritz L. Wedgeworth. Richmond County Assistant District Attorney Rex Myers says Wedgeworth was found on top of an unconscious woman with his pants down at a home May 29.
Myers says Wedgeworth met the victim through a mutual friend when a group of people gathered at a bowling alley for drinks and later partied at one of their homes. Myers says the victim was extremely intoxicated and the owner put the woman in a guest bedroom.
Wedgeworth's previous convictions include domestic violence in 1995 and 2007, sexual battery in 2001 and failure to register as a sex offender in 2006 and 2008.
