TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Leon County judge has determined a Tallahassee woman will stay behind bars, ahead of her husband's murder trial.

Judge James Hankinson denied bond to Denise Williams who was asking to be released on a bond amount of $100,000.

Denise Williams has been in jail since last month, 17 years after her husband Mike was killed.

Friends and family of both Denise and Mike Williams watched this case closely.

Denise was arrested last month. She was charged with conspiracy to commit murder, first-degree murder, and accessory after the fact.

Monday afternoon, the court listened to a sworn statement from her ex-husband Brian Winchester about what happened to Mike.

In that statement, Winchester admits he killed Mike and planned the murder with Denise. He said the two wanted to be together and take advantage of Mike's life insurance policies.

Winchester described the events leading up to the murder, how he did it, and where he hid the body.

Denise's attorney has maintained his client is innocent and that the only person tied to Mike's murder is Winchester.

However, Winchester was granted immunity in exchange for the information he gave, so he won't face any charges related to this case.

Trial is set for September 24. Speedy trial has not been waived.
