SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Authorities in coastal Georgia have identified a body that was pulled from the Savannah river as a 15-year-old Savannah boy.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan police spokesman Julian Miller says officials used dental records to identify Jonathan Brown.
Investigators pulled Brown from the river Tuesday morning. Officials have said witnesses told them they saw a young man sitting near the waterfront before hearing a splash.
Police have said witnesses told them Brown yelled for help and bystanders were unable to throw him a rope before he went under.
Divers from the police department and Savannah Fire and Rescue searched the area. Police, U.S. Coast Guard officials and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources also helped search for the teen on foot, by boat and by helicopter.
