Body found inside burning car in Cook County, GBI investigating

COOK COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - Authorities are investigating after a body was found inside a vehicle that was on fire.  

On Wednesday, GBI's Douglas Regional Office received a request by the Cook County County Sheriff's Office to help with a death investigation.  

According to a press release from the GBI, at about 1:06 p.m. Wednesday, the Cook County Sheriff's Office received a call that a fire was located near Hwy 41 and Barneyville Road in Cook County. 

When deputies and firefighters arrived on scene, they found a vehicle in a wooded area on fire. After extinguishing the fire, firefighters found a body inside the vehicle. 

GBI said the body will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner's Officer in Macon, Ga. for an autopsy and identification.
