SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - We've received the body camera video of Shia LaBeouf's arrest in downtown Savannah into the WTOC 24-hour Newsroom.
The 31-year-old actor was arrested in City Market early Saturday morning. We've been going through the video and the police report all day Tuesday. According to the report, it all started near the Wild Wings when LaBeouf was asking around for a cigarette - even turning to a Savannah-Chatham Metro officer who was standing nearby. When the officer said he didn't have one because he didn't smoke, that's when LaBeouf starting using profanity and cussing at the officer.
When the officer warned him to stop using that kind of language because there were children around, LaBeouf became even more aggressive. As the officer went to arrest LaBeouf, he took off running towards the Andaz hotel. The officer called for backup. They went after him and arrested him in the lobby of the hotel.
We were able to obtain the body cam video of when officers put him in handcuffs, moments before taking him to jail.
LaBeouf: "You all arrest me for what?"
Officer: "I'm not going to keep telling you to calm down."
LaBeouf: "What did I do to you, sir?"
LaBeouf became even more aggressive when the officer asked him to calm down because there were children around.
“Yeah, he was like all disrespectful,” one witness said.
In the two hours between LaBeouf being arrested and dropped off, he continues to show aggressive behavior. Even making what seems like threatening statements to police.
"I wish you had caught me in California with my concealed weapon on me,” LaBeouf can be heard saying on the body camera video.
He never once identified himself as the actor we all know, but instead attempted to convince police he was a member of the military.
"I’m an American. I'm in the National Guard and you've got me in custody because your black (explicative) cop thought I was asking for the wrong cigarette,” LaBeouf states in the body camera footage.
Aside from the profanity, the majority of his remarks seemed to be politically charged.
“It's called fascism. Do you know about fascism? I bet you're a Donald Trump supporter,” LaBeouf said.
LaBeouf was charged with obstruction, disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness. LaBeouf was released on a $7,000 bond. He has been in Savannah filming the movie “The Peanut Butter Falcon” co-starring with Dakota Johnson.
LaBeouf was arrested for public intoxication in 2015 in Texas. In 2014, he pleaded guilty to one count of disorderly conduct after an outburst at a Broadway theater.
The star agreed to get alcohol abuse treatment as part of a settlement related to the incident. That was after a DUI arrest in 2008 in California.
