Board suspends teacher accused of duct-taping student's eyes

TAMPA, Fla. -- A Hillsborough County music teacher has been suspended without pay after being accused of duct-taping a kindergartener's eyes.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that the Hillsborough County School Board voted 6-0 on Tuesday to suspend 29-year-old Lindsay Blanc.

Blanc was removed from the classroom at east Tampa's Potter Elementary School in April, shortly after a mother said her child's eyes were duct-taped as punishment for talking.

According to a Tampa Police Department report, some of the 19 children interviewed at the school described being duct-taped by the teacher as punishment. Blanc was not charged with a crime.

The district will next try to fire Blanc, who can appeal the suspension.

The Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association says that Blanc should be given due process rights.
