TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - County Commissioner Bill Proctor is reacting to the viral video of a Chiles High student shooting a BB gun while driving and yelling racial slurs.

He released the statement Thursday evening.

In the statement, Proctor condemned the student's behavior saying, "How can we expect white students to act beyond the pronouncements and symbolism of hatred expressed by the State of Florida on the front lawn of the Capitol?"

You can read Proctor's full statement below:

"The hatred expressed by the Chiles student using racial slurs starts from the State government of Florida. The State of Florida sanctions and dignifies racial hatred exemplified through its monuments sitting on the front lawn of our State Capitol.

The monument reads as follows: “To rescue to from oblivion and perpetuate in the memory of succeeding generations the heroic patriotism of the men of Leon County who perished in the Civil War of 1861 – 1865. This monument is raised by their Country women.”

How can we expect white students to act beyond the pronouncements and symbolism of hatred expressed by the State of Florida on the front lawn of the Capitol?"
