(RNN) - Actress Sandra Bullock announced on Wednesday that she will donate $1 million to the American Red Cross to aid the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
"There are no politics in 8 feet of water," she told People. "There are human beings in 8 feet of water."
Bullock is the latest in a long list of celebrities who have donated to the relief effort, including Houstonian Beyonce.
A preliminary estimate from AccuWeather predicts Harvey could leave behind $160 billion in damage, making it the costliest natural disaster in U.S. history.
Comedian and actor Kevin Hart kicked off many of the donations when he issued a challenge to his fellow celebrities on Sunday.
"I'm going to start a real challenge," Hart said in a video uploaded to social media. " I'm challenging a lot of my celebrity friends to follow my lead in donating $250,00 to Hurricane Harvey, to the Red Cross, OK?"
Hart tagged Dwayne Johnson, Beyonce, Chris Rock, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z and others in the post.
The comedian's crowdfunding campaign for the natural disaster raised nearly $1 million in less than a day. Harvey unleashed more than 50 inches of rain in some parts of Texas and left behind devastating flooding in Houston.
