FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - There was a little ray of sunshine for people who have had a rough two weeks in Franklin County.

People in Eastpoint were treated to a traditional Fourth of July barbecue Wednesday night.

The goal was to raise money to help the dozens of families whose homes burned down in a wildfire in June.

FSU chef Jared Schiess wanted to thank the first responders for their help in fighting the fire but also to give give a nice meal to those who lost everything.

"It's just the way this community acts," said George Pruett, chief of the Eastpoint Fire Department. "They're very close-knit. They're survivors and they will get out and help each other. They might not like each other during the week, but when something like this happens, they're going to be there. They're just great people."

Although it was free to eat, donations were accepted.

All the money raised will be going to help the victims of the fire.
