GRETNA, Fla. (WTXL) - Big news for the small town of Greta, Florida: Batman is moving in!
After serving as a Gadsden County Sheriff's deputy for more than two decades, Sgt. Brian Alexander, nicknamed "Batman," will soon take over as Gretna's new Chief of Police.
Sgt. Alexander got his "Super" nickname when he was just a kid, telling his mother that someday he was going to "save the world". Pictures show his family, friends, and colleagues gathered together to celebrate Sgt. Alexander's new role.
But Gretna isn't exactly Gotham. We couldn't find a Bane, Poison Ivy, or Joker threatening the town, but locals say protecting the streets is still a job fit for a hero.
"I think it's a great thing," said once local resident. "He knows the people, he lives out here. It shouldn't be a problem, he knows how to interact with the people. I feel safer. Much safer."
Friday was Sgt. Alexander's last day with the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office. He takes up his new role as Gretna's Chief of Police on Monday, June 5th.
