BARWICK, Ga. (WTXL) -- A south Georgia police chief has died.
Investigators with the Brooks County Sheriff's Office say Barwick Police Chief Anthony Barfield Sr. was pronounced dead at Archbold Memorial Hospital Tuesday night. Brooks County Coroner Michael Miller says Barfield had some difficulty breathing while on duty.
Miller says it appears Barfield died from natural causes but his body is being sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy Thursday.
Barfield was 47 years old. He was appointed to police chief in 2009 and served 20 years in law enforcement.
