TIFT COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - A Tift County middle school was placed on lock down Tuesday morning due to a bank robbery.

The Tifton Police Department confirmed that on Tuesday a suspect robbed the South Georgia Banking Company at 725 West 2nd Street.

Tift County Schools says that Eighth Street Middle School and the Central Office were placed on lock down as a precautionary measure.

Law enforcement from the Tifton Police Department, the Tift County Sheriff's Office and a Department of Natural Resource K-9 unit immediately responded to the area to begin investigating.

After a search of the surrounding area, officers found a male suspect, later identified as Randy Angelo Hill of Tifton, hiding in a drainage ditch.

The man was taken into custody around 10:43 a.m. and is being held at the Tift County Jail. No one was injured during the robbery.

Officials say the schools are now back to normal operations.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation Valdosta office has been contacted and is assisting in the investigation.
