DECATUR CO., GA -- Bainbridge City Leaders are looking into the costs of combining city and county fire departments.
The University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government conducted a consolidation study to see if joining county and city services would improve fire and rescue in Decatur County.
Due to new positions that would need to be filled, the study found that Bainbridge would see a cost increase from $113,000 to $126,000 more per year if they consolidated.
"The study wasn't really to propose anything. Just to lay out the facts of here is what happens if you do this", said Chris Hobby, Bainbridge City Manager.
City leaders say they will continue to take steps towards combining resources in some areas without transitioning to a full consolidation.
