TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - It's been more than 17 hours of deliberation, but no verdict has been reached by the jury in the trial of an accused quadruple murderer.
Henry Segura could face the death penalty if he's found guilty of first-degree murder.
WTXL ABC 27's Stephen Jiwanmall joins us live from court.
The jury is taking a hard look at whether or not it can come up with a verdict. Just a few hours ago, they told the judge they were deadlocked, but the judge has asked them to go back and deliberate one more time.
A critical day in this trial, we've been waiting for quite some time for a decision. The jury asked to review two testimonies this morning.
One was from Kelsey Kinard, who said Segura confessed to the murders while they were in prison together.
The other was from TPD Sergeant Vincent Boccio, who interviewed another man who allegedly confessed to the murders caught in a wiretapped conversation with a confidential informant.
Court reporters read back those transcripts as jurors took notes in an effort to get some clarity and reach a verdict one way or the other.
If the deadlock continues, we're talking about a possible mistrial, which means we'll do this all over again.
Segura will go back to jail, and a new jury would be selected. It'll give both sides more time to work on their cases, but I can tell you from what I've heard from viewers on social media, they're hoping for a verdict.
