SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL)-- Preliminary autopsy results confirm an elderly couple found dead in the Suwannee River last month died from drowning.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says the body of Grace Maynard was discovered March 21 floating in the Suwannee River near Mayo. The body of her husband James was found two days later about a mile and a half upstream from Dowling Park. Officials say the couple had been staying at a nearby campground. Investigators say the couple launched a small boat from a ramp near Jasper and somewhere on the river something happened, causing them to go into the water. Their truck was found, but their boat is still missing.
