FORT STEWART (WTOC) - Military police are currently investigating a homicide after they found the wife of a deployed soldier dead inside her home on Fort Stewart.
Military police found Abree Boykin, 24, dead in her on-post residence at approximately 8:45 p.m. July 10.
Boykin may have known her assailant, according to the United States Army Criminal Investigation Command.
"Our investigation remains ongoing and I can assure you our special agents are working around the clock on this case and have made significant progress," said Christopher Grey, spokesman for Army CID.
Law enforcement found her after they received a call from a concerned relative wanting them to go check on her.
Special Agents are looking for the victim’s vehicle that was missing from her residence when the victim was discovered. The vehicle is a Black 2018 Honda Accord with a Georgia License Plate RLQ1762.
The agents are treating the investigation as a homicide. Anyone with information should contact authorities.
The news shocked community members in Hinesville, but Grey said the incident appears to be "isolated."
"At this point in the investigation we believe this was an isolated incident and the victim possibly knew her assailant. We have no reason or evidence to believe that the Fort Stewart community is at further risk related to this tragic death," he said.
Fort Stewart Garrison Commander Col. Jason Wolter said this incident is isolated and the installation's security remains intact.
"This is an ongoing investigation. The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, the Directorate of Emergency Services, and our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners are working this case around the clock to close the investigation," Wolter said in a release. "Based on this particular incident, we believe this to be an isolated event, and residents should have no heightened concerns about their safety or security."
Three of Boykin’s relatives told WTOC that she went to high school in the Atlanta area and they are heartbroken over the loss. They say Boykin’s husband was deployed just a few weeks after they got married.
"She recently got married in January to her husband who is stationed overseas. That was the joy of her life. She loved him and he loved her,” Arnitra King said.
The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for Boykin’s death.
