TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A theft suspect has been captured after a manhunt near Governor's Square Mall Wednesday afternoon.
The Leon County Sheriff's Office says the theft suspect ran from the Dillard's store inside the mall on Wednesday. The suspect was taken into custody just after 3 p.m.
LCSO says a deputy was working off duty at Dillard's when the incident occurred. At some point, the deputy was alerted about a theft in progress.
The deputy made contact with a suspect in the parking garage underneath Dillard's who ran north into some nearby woods. Deputies began looking for the suspect with the helicopter and two K-9 units.
The Tallahassee Police Department also responded to the scene to aid in the search.
Authorities were searching for 30 to 45 minutes before they stopped. Just 10 minutes later, the man was spotted on the corner of Blairstone and Apalachee Parkway.
After being spotted, the man again ran into the woods, this time into a pond where he swam across.
K-9 units were brought back to the area to aid in apprehending the suspect. At that time the suspect gave up, swam back to shore, and was arrested.
That suspect has been identified as 38-year-old Jonathan Rabon.
Deputies say Rabon stole more than $300 worth of clothing from Dillard's.
