TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Deputies say an aunt-nephew duo has been arrested after conspiring together to steal more than $34,000 from a victim in Tallahassee.
Alexander Young, 25, was arrested by the Leon County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday. Lesley Young, 44, remains in the Gadsden County Jail on unrelated charges.
On Aug. 27, the victim filed a report with the Tallahassee Police Department, saying his bank accounts were frozen due to fraudulent activity. During the investigation, officers showed the victim a photo of Alexander and Lesley entering the bank and completing a "customer debit" using the victim's name and account number.
According to the police report, the customer debit form was given to the teller in the amount of $5,000 with Alexander showing an ID that he was the victim.
The victim told officers that he and Lesley had a "friendly association for a week or two" earlier this year. He said Lesley had access to all his personal belongings and information.
Documents state the victim stated the relationship ended when he found out Lesley had "borrowed" his bank card and made over $1,000 worth of purchases. The police report stated he did not file a police report but did cancel his card.
The victim reviewed his account with a bank employee and found out that a transfer of $10,000 was made from one of his accounts to another account, prior to the customer debit of $5,000.
Officers stated Lesley's bank account hasn't had any regular or standard transactions besides the ones involved with money from the victim's account.
Lesley, who was being held in the Gadsden County Jail on unrelated charges, declined to be interviewed by TPD officers.
Documents say the victim lost a total of $34,300.
Based on the evidence provided, Alexander is being charged with fraudulently obtaining property under $20,000, possessing a counterfeit instrument, using a false instrument, and fraudulently using ID of another person without consent.
Lesley is being charged with bank fraud, organized scheme to defraud, two counts of obtaining property by false impersonation, two counts of possession of counterfeit instrument, two counts of uttering, and criminal use of personal identification over $5,000.
Alexander was taken to the Leon County Detention Facility and his bond has been set at $20,000. He has since bonded out. Lesley is still currently at the Gadsden County Jail for 13 counts of violation of probation.
