AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Sheriff's deputies say they caught a teenage burglary suspect hiding inside an Augusta store where he had spent the night.
The Augusta Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/2cboPcr ) employees of the Family Dollar store called the sheriff's office Friday morning when they arrived to find the burglar alarm control panel was damaged and the electricity was out.
An incident report says deputies found an 18-year-old suspect hiding in a back corner. He said he had entered the store before closing Thursday and hidden. When he activated an alarm, deputies said, the suspect tried to rip out the alarm control panel and then shut off the electrical breakers in the store's fuse box.
The teenager was charged with second-degree burglary. Deputies say a store manager estimated $2,500 worth of damage had been done.
