MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Even on a beautiful sun-drenched day a dark cloud still seems to hang over Midway, Florida. Recently City Council and Mayor Ella Barber fired their city manager Auburn Ford.
Auburn Ford says, "Basically I feel betrayed. I know this is about personal issues."
Ford says he was let go without an explanation. He wants his severance package of about forty thousand dollars. He's already spoken to lawyers saying legal action is the next step.
Auburn Ford says, "I just want them to pay me so I can go about my merry way. But if I have to sue them that is lawyers fee's it is more money the city does not have."
This is not the first time the city has been at odds with a city manager.
Before Auburn Ford took the helm, Agatha Muse-Salters was the city manager.
She was hired, then fired. And then Agatha was rehired a second time and then let go again. She is suing the city.
The former city manager says, "They are policy makers. It is very difficult when you have certain councilman interfering with the operations of the city managers. They said I had too much power. I only have the power they give me."
City Attorney Henry Hunter says he hopes to resolve the issue with Auburn Ford as soon as possible.
