Atlanta Airport 'Remains on Heightened Alert' After Attacks

Posted

ATLANTA (AP) — Officials at Atlanta's airport — the world's busiest — say it "remains on heightened alert" in light of the attacks in Belgium.

Airport officials said in a statement Tuesday that they will continue to coordinate efforts with federal, state, and city law enforcement.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said his administration will "take every precaution" to ensure safety in the city, particularly at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Explosions at the Brussels airport and subway system Tuesday killed more than 30 people, wounded dozens more and led to heightened security across Europe. The head of the Brussels Airport says the airport will remain closed at least through Wednesday.

Atlanta's airport led the world in passenger traffic with 101.5 million passengers in 2015.
