TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Evacuating the elderly and caring for them during an emergency can bring a set of unique risks.
That's why Tapestry Senior Living has a week's worth of food and water in place for all residents in preparation for this hurricane season.
If they loose power, they have five small generators and by the end of September, they'll have a new generator that can power the entire building for 96 hours.
If Tapestry Senior Living is in an evacuation zone, there's a plan for the nearly 100 residents.
"We would hire bus companies to evacuate us to another property, similar to us, an assisted living facility to another safe area," said Jeff Rardin, Executive Director of Tapestry Senior Living. "We would bring staff with us. We would bring our emergency food with us and all those items would come with the residents."
Rardin says last season for Hurricane Irma, they took in 100 residents from an assisted living facility in Naples.
With these partnerships in place, Tapestry Senior Living is ready to evacuate or make room for those who need to.
