MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL)--As the competition starts winding down, we are hearing from the south Georgia pastor who's a contestant on ABC's "Rising Star."
Austin French sailed through the quarter finals on Sunday.
He says he's humbled America put him in the top six, voting live through the "Rising Star" app.
He says the Cordele community and his church back in Tifton have been his backbone throughout the competition.
Austin is hoping to move past this weekend's semifinals. He says the show has been good about allowing contestants to have artistic control and creativity over the songs and the arrangements, really showing off their talents. Austin is in Los Angeles getting ready for his next competition. We talked with him through Skype.
"I think the exposure has been so good, that even if I don't go on to win this thing, I hope I can get picked up by a record label or company to do an album or tour as an artist and still be involved with the local church of course," said French.
We will continue to follow his musical journey and keep you updated.
Among all the rehearsing and performing, Austin got married on August 1.
