TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - It's the start of national fire prevention week and the American Red Cross is reminding the public about the importance of working smoke alarms in homes and businesses.
The Capital Area Chapter of the Red Cross has a free smoke alarm program. The non-profit is in year three of a five-year project called the "Home Fire Prevention Campaign".
The organization teams up with local fire departments to get smoke alarms into people's homes. So far, the Red Cross credited the campaign for saving 23-lives nationwide.
The Tallahassee Fire Department will wrap up the week with a Fire Safety Display, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Home Depot on Capital Circle Northeast.
