TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Florida's 29 electors met Monday at the state capitol to officially cast ballots for president and vice-president.

Since Saturday, protesters have rallied downtown to send a message to those electors: "vote your conscience" and "flip the vote."

Tensions flared over the weekend in Tallahassee, as people continued to protest -- and support -- Donald Trump's win in the presidential election.

More than a month after the election, protesters are still speaking out.

"This is going to affect four years of our lives here. Four years of the country's life," said demonstrator Steve Schildwachter.

Organizer Lakey Love said the demonstration was meant to support electors, not to harass them.

"We know it's risky business," she said. "We know that they've had a lot of threats."

"We're not saying, 'Vote for this guy, vote for that guy.' We're saying, 'Just don't vote for Trump. Abstain,'" said Maxwell Frost, a state organizer for Democracy Spring.

Hundreds of protesters from across the state gathered in front of the Florida Senate Chamber. Security blocked off access, but protesters said, regardless of the vote, they will continue to demonstrate.

"We're not going to oppose every single thing that Trump does, if it's good," Frost said. "But if it's bad, if it's racist, if it's bigoted, then we're going to fight it."

"If there's conflict of interest, we just need to hold him accountable for it," Schildwachter said.

If electors were to "flip the vote," Congress would pick a replacement. Protesters said they wouldn't endorse anyone in particular.

"There's several. I don't want to name any names. This effort is a non-partisan effort," said Love.

But if the vote was for Trump, they said the next step is tackling his Cabinet picks.

Love said, "[We're] working to talk to Congress to not allow the big leaders to have corporate affiliations."

Despite protest, all 29 electors voted for Trump, a final step in his victory in the Sunshine State.
