TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Due to the significant damage, power restoration could take nearly a week for some, so Leon County and the City of Tallahassee have announced relief efforts for citizens in need.
The American Red Cross is scheduled to open a comfort shelter on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Leon County Main Library. The shelter will be opened as needed daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for residents to cool off, hydrate, and receive information from nonprofit agencies in the area.
To assist citizens without water, bottled water distribution sites will be opened at five locations throughout Leon County.
Distribution will be from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. At the sites listed below, The Salvation Army will offer canteen food service two times a day at 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

WASTE COLLECTION SERVICE:
County and City will resume commercial and residential waste collection service in Tallahassee and unincorporated Leon County on Saturday. As a reminder, due to the Labor Day holiday, next week all customers will receive service one day later than their regularly scheduled service. Residents able to remove debris from their property can take it to the Leon County Solid Waste Management Facility, 7550 Apalachee Parkway, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Sunday, and Monday, Sept. 5.
