Around 1,000 demonstrators took to the streets outside a Donald Trump rally in San Diego, California on Friday.
According to police, 35 people were arrested, but no injuries or property damage were reported.
An unlawful assembly was declared and officials over loudspeakers told demonstrators that anyone who stayed would be arrested.
Witnesses say some protestors were carrying Mexican flags and shouting "Dump Donald Trump." Trump supporters reportedly shouted back, "You can't vote," and "build the wall."
Donald Trump responded on Twitter by thanking the San Diego Police Department and calling the protestors thugs.
.@SanDiegoPD- Fantastic job on handling the thugs who tried to disrupt our very peaceful and well attended rally. Greatly appreciated!
