TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The owner of the Marathon Gas station on West Pensacola Street has been arrested, accused of shooting an unarmed man and planting a knife on him before police arrived.
Mohammad 'Mike' Ghosh, 34, was arrested on Thursday.
The Tallahassee Police Department says it responded to 2752 W. Pensacola Street about a patron stealing beer from the business.
The caller, identified later as Ghosh, told police that the shoplifting customer, identified as 21-year-old Lewis King, had a knife and threatened to "blow his brains out," if King pulled it out.
A little later, Ghosh called back, saying that he had shot King.
When police arrived, they found King lying on the ground with a single gunshot wound to the back of the neck. He was immediately transported to the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for his injuries.
After talking to witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage, police discovered the victim, who had stolen a beer, was never armed with a knife.
In fact, surveillance footage showed Ghosh removing a knife from behind the counter and placing it on the victim.
As a result, Ghosh was charged with tampering with evidence and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He is being held in the Leon County Detention Facility on a $11,000 bond.
Police say King is being treated at TMH where he is in stable condition.
