Armed Man in Custody After I-75 Standoff

SPARKS, GA (WTXL) -- A man is in custody after a standoff with law enforcement on I-75 Sunday evening, forcing a portion of the interstate to be shut down for more than an hour.

According to Adel police, the man was armed and barricaded by Exit 41 on the southbound side of the interstate.

Several agencies responded, including Georgia State Patrol, Lowndes County Sheriff's Office, Turner County Sheriff's Office, Webster County Sheriff's Office, Ashburn Police Department and Lenox Police Department.

The interstate was closed as police were able to end the standoff around 8 p.m. The offender was taken into custody.

Adel police say I-75 was reopened around 8:30 p.m. No injuries have been reported. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was also en route to the scene.
