TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Seven area veterans will be recognized Monday for overcoming their personal battles.
They will graduate from an "intensive treatment program" focused on their recovery. The event will occur at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the Leon County Courthouse, Courtroom 2-E.
Most veterans are strengthened by their military service. But for many veterans their experience has resulted in suffering from "invisible wounds," including such things as post-traumatic stress disorder, major depression, suicide ideation.
According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, one in five veterans has symptoms of a mental health disorder or cognitive impairment and one in six veterans who
served in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom suffer from a substance abuse
The Leon County Veterans Treatment Court uses Department of Veteran Affairs and volunteer veteran mentor resources to change Veteran's lives for the better.
